Ulla gestures him ahead of her, since he's the one who knows where they're
going from here. "Sometimes breaches give a start on that. That's how I
gained brothers. But it's hard to stay... disconnected... here,
regardless. And you're kind. You'll find people."
Oscar takes the lead, since she's never been to his cabin before. And while there are some obvious ones, his was a little more modest.
But thankfully, not the wreck of planks that was Max's room.
"I suppose we will see. Yunlan almost...promised me that I would be adopted, sooner or later, without me knowing. Or rather- without being asked." He shook his head. "Baffling as it sounds."
"He's right," Ulla notes, a teasing lilt to her voice as she adds, "We've
both been here long enough to know. It happened to me, even back when I
wished it wouldn't and wasn't nearly as nice as you."
He offered a huff, shaking his head, even as they slowed down, and he stood outside of his door. He still needed to find his key in his pocket.
"I'm not that nice, Miss Ulla- I'm simply doing my job." He explained as he made to unlock his door. "And I'm sure you had plenty of reason to be-well- unhappy with your situation."
"So it's your job to give me cooking lessons and gently handle my
fiancee's angry chicken?" Face it, Oscar, you are actually nice,
not just professionally.
"Well...i-it wasn't the chicken's fault that it was angry." He scratched his cheek, abashed, before finding his key, unlocking the door, and motioning for Ursula to go ahead and come inside.
Not that there was much to the place. A bed, a small desk, a bookshelf; it was all kind of shabby and worn. The only thing that was impressive was the selection of alcohol and glasses.
Ulla stays in her tub of water, arms propped on the side, resting a cheek
on her hand and looking up at him. "I'm comfortable enough as I am. Are
you alright, Oscar?"
He felt embarrassed as he continued. "Because um. We were...romantic. I-I just want to reassure you that I don't harbor any...feelings...towards her currently."
Ulla purses her lips, voice soft as she tells him, "She didn't betray me,
and neither did you. You chose each other there, but I didn't even know
her in that life. You don't owe me an apology for something you didn't
control."
She does give him a slightly sharper look, though, as she adds, "We
can't control feelings in any life. Neither of you would act on them here,
so again, even if sentiment lingered, you wouldn't owe me apologies."
He felt himself flush. It wasn't a pretty thing, making his skin all mottled, abd he rolled his shoulders, uncomfortable.
"I suppose...that is a very reasonable argument. I- that is, normally- romantic feelings were never really a consideration. Priests- good priests- they don't act on romantic emotions. And I don't usually...that is to say I don't think I've ever...felt such a way. It's very...shocking."
"Really? I will never understand human religion. And I'm a saint
in one. Sailors' wives left offerings for me and asked me to see their
husbands home safe."
She shakes her head, tone shifting from bewildered to sympathetic as she
gets back to the main topic. "I've been there. I hadn't, either, until a
breach. With Taylor, actually, long before she and I became what we are
now. It was awful coming back to myself after. It forced me to see
that I'd been in love with someone once before, without recognizing it for
what it was. And that person, who I loved most in the world, betrayed me
and tried to leave me for dead. I had lost more than I realized."
He tried not to act shocked but well-he at least managed to keep his jaw from dropping. Ulla. A Saint. A saint.
He could almost feel a headache forming on his temples. Almost.
"I..well. It can be complicated to explain. But I am...truly sorry for what you lost. I..."
He shook his head. "I can only hope and pray you will continue to have your love and happiness with Miss Taylor. If she is anything like she was in breach...she's a wonderful woman."
"For the rest of her life," Ulla agrees softly. She'll live centuries
unless she's killed, so she expects to outlive her wife. But that's no
reason not to appreciate the time she has. "She is
wonderful. You should get to know her some here, too. She won't be upset
with you either."
Oh...oh. She must live so long. It wasn't anything he would wish on anyone, but too- no one lived the same amount of time.
They only had their time, today.
"I see. Though, admittedly- I am a little embarrassed." Mortified really, but Ulla didn't need to know that.
"But- I would like to. I think I need to...be kind with myself a little. Realize that this breach doesn't mean I have broken my vows. Or will develop ...anything romantic here."
Thinking about it, he might have to figure out how to talk to Norton, since he'd been...interested before.
"Would you blame anyone else for things they did in another life, with
different memories? You don't seem the sort who would. So show
yourself the same kindness you'd offer anyone else." Easier said than
done, but she feels it's only reasonable.

"But uh...I have to confess something during breach. During that time, Miss Taylor and I..."
He glanced down at his lap, flustered.
Re: Post Breach; spam
Ulla's brow furrows. "Whatever you were, were you... worried I'd be angry?"
